While the Town Supervisor is designated as the Chief Fiscal Officer under New York State town law, the Comptroller is directly responsible for daily financial operations such as accounting, auditing and approving claims for payment; preparing periodic financial reports; preparing for the financing of capital improvements through debt issues; administering the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation loan program for consolidated sewer district capital improvements; administering the federal Community Development Block Grant; investing idle funds; preparing annual budgets; and overseeing the annual audit at the end of each fiscal year.
