Overview

The Historic Preservation Commission was formed in 2001 to preserve and protect local historic sites and foster civic pride in and awareness of the history of the Town of Irondequoit. It reviews and approves applications for landmark designation and certificates of appropriateness for proposed changes to designated landmarks as authorized in the Town code. In addition to its designation and review powers, the commission also conducts surveys of landmarks and historic districts, increases public awareness of local history through public education, and advises Town government on acquiring landmark structures and on the utilization of state, federal, and private funds to promote historic preservation efforts.

The criteria for the designation of landmarks and approval of certificates of appropriateness are set by Chapter 236 of the Town Code and are in keeping with standards established by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. Those interested in designating their historic properties should contact the Town Historian at 585-336-7269.

Schedule of Public Hearings

The Historic Preservation Commission will adjourn all unfinished business at 9 pm and matters not completed will be held to the next scheduled commission meeting.
