Message from the Chief
Thank you for visiting our site. January 2026 marks the 3rd year I have had the privilege of being the Chief of the Irondequoit Police Department. This also marks the 33rd year I have been in active police service. Times have certainly changed from when I started, and the policing profession is certainly no exception!
My goal when I started was to work side-by-side with the citizens of the town to make this the best town to live and work in. I feel we have accomplished this, day in and day out. The support our department receives from the residents continues to astound me. We receive an endless string of support letters as well as phone calls. Are we always perfect? No, but we do strive to do the job right, every time. We continue to live by the rule, “treat everyone with respect and leave it better than you found it.” The members of the IPD practice the philosophy of Community Policing. This philosophy promotes a strong partnership between residents and their police departments. It is based on the premise that both the police and the community must work together as equal partners to identify, prioritize and solve problems such as crime, fear of crime in neighborhoods with the goal of improving the overall quality of life in your neighborhoods and in the community of Irondequoit. Community policing helps the public understand that police officers are also human beings, who go home at the end of their shifts and function within the community, just like the public they serve.
Our department will continue to provide public safety with tenacity and fairness. Our officers are professional and highly trained. We will continue to be transparent with details about public safety because you deserve to be informed.
We will continue moving upward as we go into 2026. In 1991, our department was Accredited by New York State. We are preparing for another 5-year Accreditation award and expect to achieve it. Approximately 30% of police departments in New York State achieve this milestone and we will be sure to continue this path.
